The weekend

It is Saturday night and I am finishing the days activities. We have had two deaths at our house- 2 of our fish. I woke up to find one "asleep" at the bottom and the other was pretty well gone (must have been "asleep" for days!). I did a water change in both tanks and filter changes, so the rest of the fish are swimming in comfort. I have too many fish to name and keep track of, but I like to look at them all. Twice a day I feed them and stare at them through the glass. I have always found caring for fish to be very therapeutic. It is calming to watch them swim around and to hear the water trickling through the pump.

My oldest fish is well over a year and a half- a big monster plecostomus. "Plecky" will sit on the bottom and look me right in the eye. He keeps our tank clean. He is big enough and will require a funeral at his death.

Well, I must go give them their after 10:00pm feeding. Their light will automatically shut off in the next few minutes, so they can sleep. Good night fish, good night moon, good night cow jumping over the moon....

Martha

I better say a few words about Martha. She went to her first "Girl's Club" meeting today and had a blast. What a social silly girl she is!! I was not like her when I was younger, and it is fun for me to see her be her own person. She is a real free spirit and fun-loving child. I was boring and way too serious. I envy her! I don't think anyone would argue that Martha is her own person! For her "Martha" moment today, she found a recipe and made her own face cream out of yogurt, essential oil, and a few other ingredients. The bathroom was wet and slimy- but her face was clean. :o)

Take me out to the ball game...

Buddy had his first practice for Little League this evening. It was great! My husband, Steve, has been playing with him since last summer and it has paid off. I think he was the only player that had not been on a team before.

I got asked the typical questions: What school does he go to? Answer: None, he is homeschooled. Why did you wait this long before signing him up for baseball? Answer: We didn't want to be tied down each summer when he was so young, we wanted to let his body mature, and we wanted HIM to want to sign up!!! The typical response: a completely puzzled look...like, "you don't do things the normal way" kind of a look. My answer: I think for myself and will do what I think is best- for the good of my son. So there.

Well, I now have no worries. He was able to keep up with the other boys and he had a good time. Mission accomplished. :o) I told him I'd help him practice his fielding- my throwing is so "off" that he is bound to get some good practice with me!

Camping!

My mind has officially started to prepare for a camping trip. We love to go camping in the summer! I am taking my car in for an oil change and I've given my doggie friend his tick prevention "stuff"- he is now good for the month! There is a ton of stuff to do and I am having a hard time delegating. Even if I delegate, it is all moms fault if something gets left behind!

I love camping for many reaons. I suppose the main ones are: I get to leave all the ordinary things behind, no TV or phones, and lots of fresh air and exercise. I really like being able to take our dog along. He doesn't do well in a kennel, so it is a great, worry-free time of including the whole family! Every year at the beginning of camping season, I've thought I would lose weight, but that never happens. I think I snack too much on S'mores! I better add the S'more ingredients to my list!

My husband, Steve Nash...

I told my husband that I was going to call him "Steve Nash" on my blog. (we have a running joke between us from the Simpsons- when Homer is talking to Marge and he forgets reality and says, "like when my dad, Tom Bosley..." and Marge says, "that was Happy Days, Homer." and Homer says, "They weren't all Happy Days, Marge." ) He reminds me a little of Nash- he is a good basketball player and cannot be underestimated!

I caught my son (I'll call him "Buddy") watching a Steve Nash MVP Mix on Youtube. It had about 10 minutes of clips from different games and shooting competitions- it was great. A good friend of ours spent a couple hours putting together a basketball hoop for us, and so after my Buddy was done watching all the cool passing and other basketball moves, he went outside to practice some of the same moves. He made some awesome shots and did some pretty fancy dribbling for such a young boy. Isn't it amazing how they model what they see and admire? Good reminder for me!!!

Hodge Podged!

I can't believe I am doing it...starting another blog. This is what stress does to you- when writing is therapy!

I love quotes, so here are a few:

"A mind is a fire to be kindled, not a vessel to be filled." Plutarch

"A room without books is like a body without a soul." Cicero

"Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting." Ralph Waldo Emerson

These speak of so many of my interests and loves- books, nature and beautiful things, time to think, and simplicity.
